Highlights
Have come across various spatial web-based applications that helps for custom enhancements to provide solutions for web GIS development. This includes Google Maps platform, Esri Configurables (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Dashboards, Esri StoryMaps, ArcGIS Developers, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS REST Services), ArcGIS Server on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). In addition, I am also familiar with various open source platforms like OpenStreetMap, Geoserver and Leaflet.
Google Maps
Starting with knowledge of the services of Google Maps as a Development Platform, have explored the Google map products (Maps, Routes & Places) to customize the map that allows users to navigate directions and routes according to a particular need. For example, I have created a map that displays the most famous tourist attractions in Manhattan City of New York. Please click here to view the source code file. Result of this map is unfortunately not available for now as a valid Google Maps JavaScript API key is required to view the map.
On the contrary, Google My Maps is an open source platform that allows to add, style, label, share and embed the map on our own. Here is an example customized art places map symbols displayed on Google My Maps.
Interactive Web Map Solution
With a team of 4, we had to address a problem and implement a solution based on a real need in a municipal or consulting role. The problem we considered is about the blacklegged ticks that are an invasive species observed in parks of Ontario, that induce Lyme Disease to humans. With the help of the web map, users can make an informed decision on the proper cautions to take while visiting the parks by viewing the tick numbers observed in the parks of Toronto.
At the top is a link to our group website where we have mentioned the details of the problem, the process steps and the solution links to view the web maps. We have selected 2 open source platforms like Mapbox Studios and Leaflet and one Esri solution of Experience Builder to makes interactive web maps. Experience Builder is like a website of its own, so it has a general information for users, a map with year filter to display number of ticks observed from 2015 to 2019 and also a complaint form made using open source Kobotoolbox survey form that allows user to detect their current location and enter the number of ticks observed by them at their location.
